District, board revise proposal

We are encouraged by revisions announced to draft Policy and Regulation 5332, Student Publications. These changes were announced at the School Board Policy Committee's August 20th meeting.

We are currently analyzing the proposal to make sure it is consistent with our focus: to ensure that The Spoke can continue to provide the highest caliber of journalism in service of our school and community, and do so with the highest degree of journalistic integrity.

(Please note that the last line of the policy was changed by the committee after the draft was distributed: "While the Board recognizes and respects the rights of District students to express themselves through student publications and websites, the Board authorizes the Superintendent to develop regulations which permit the administration to exercise its oversight authority as permitted by law.")
